Best Ways to Learn Spanish Fast

It's always a great idea to learn a second language. English and Spanish are almost equally spoken in the US. You'll very often hear English messages repeated into Spanish. That is a good reason for learning Spanish. Of course, for many people, learning new languages is very difficult. If new languages are difficult for you, what follows are some tricks and tips that may help you.

Locate a course offered on CD. If you're feeling shy about learning a new language, CDs are great to use. You can just listen to the words, and then hear how they're used in full sentences. CDs contain the same learning material as used in a classroom, but there will be no stress about talking in front of a class. And it's great because you can listen to your CD just about anywhere. You can put your lessons on an MP3 player or use a CD player! So there's no single location where you must learn.

Try putting tags on things in your environement. If possible, use this technique on the things around your house and even at your job. You will be constantly viewing the words then, without even having to consciously think about it. Don't risk confusing different words; this can be quite embarrassing! When you don't know what you're saying, you can end up confusing similar sounding words that mean very different things. When you start seeing all these labeled items around you, the new vocabulary will start to feel more and more natural to you.

Create an organized system to learn the language. Learning a language doesn't have to be hard, but you have to use one system or another. Languages have a certain logic to them, and you have to follow this. If you start with the fundamentals, like how to pronounce each letter and how to count, you'll have a foundation. If you want to speed up your progress, don't try to learn the language's grammar right away; start, rather, with vocabulary. Whatever method you choose, remain with the program and don't skip from one section to another. This will make your absorbing of the new language much less difficult. Changing the order can cause you to miss something important. Why would you make things harder for yourself?

Don't think that it has to be hard work or a chore to learn this new language. Keep in mind that Spanish is much easier to learn than many other languages. There are lots of ways to go about learning a new language. Everyone has to choose the method that it best for them. When you find the program or strategy that you feel comfortable with, learning will be much simpler. If you are patient and you work slowly but steadily you could become fluent in your new language before you know it!

Audio and Video Media

Boston Media Makers LIVE by stevegarfield

While seemingly minor, the update gives Amazon an immediate advantage in the race to be the e-reader of choice for digital customers. In Amazon's world, it's not necessarily about having the number one hardware device for consuming digital text, it's about having the number one platform, which is where the iPhone and iPad apps come into play.

On the hardware front, Amazon last week dropped prices for the Kindle 3G to $189 from $259, to better compete with Barnes & Noble's Nook device, now $199 for its 3G version. Now, on the software side, Amazon is ushering in a new era for digital books, with these “augmented editions” that offer more than just text.

Beyond the “Accompanying CD-ROM”

Of course, the idea to sell multimedia content along with a book is not, in and of itself, a new idea. Over the years, plenty of books have been sold with accompanying CD-ROMs or DVDs with additional material, especially in educational texts where study guides, video tutorials, practice tests and digital references come in handy.

But it hasn't been until the e-reader era that the ability to view these extras has been so seamlessly integrated with the reading experience itself. You no longer have to place the book down, insert a physical disk into a computer and then launch the book's extras. It's all blended into one package.

Reinventing Reading?

Already, the technology is enabling new experiences, such as in the digital guidebook, Rick Steves' London, which offers five narrated audio tours of famous landmarks like the British Museum and St. Paul's Cathedral. You can read the book on your iPhone or iPad then pop in your headphones to take a tour.

But will these new augmented digital experiences truly usher in a new way to read? It may be too early to tell the broader impact the technology will have on the world at large, but outside Amazon's universe, there are several publishers who are embracing the new digital format, both in e-books and e-magazines, with innovative offerings.

The Alice in Wonderland iPad App, for example, was recently touted as a “reinvention” of reading, with its animations and interactive content. But really it's just a pop-up book re-imagined for the digital age. There's also a collection of digital magazines for the iPad, each experimenting with how best to incorporate media like video, audio and music, along with their text-based content. Wired's iPad edition, for instance, offers video and audio in addition to news articles, leading to initial sales rivaling that of its newsstand counterpart. Entertainment Weekly, on the other hand, pared down its magazine for the iPad, with its launch of the EW “Must List,” a weekly top 10 featuring the best in film, books, TV and music where each item is linked to associated media like song clips or movie trailers.

For book publishers, there are numerous possibilities to offer multimedia extras similar to these. But outside of reference books and nonfiction, writers will need to be careful about overindulging in these media bonuses. The point of reading – well, reading fiction at least – is not to see, but see with your mind's eye. Imagination will always surpass media, no matter how new and glossy it is. Publishers should not fear the technology, though, but implement it thoughtfully and carefully going forward.

That's Ari Melber's why-didn't-I-think-of-it phrase to describe the ratio of media attention Sarah Palin receives to the supporters inspired by what she does. His test case: the "Mama Grizzlies" video, which spliced audio of her speech to the Susan B. Anthony List with video of her meeting with activists, and inspired coverage unheard of for a YouTube video not starring Osama bin Laden or Chris Crocker.

In the week since it was first posted on Palin’s Facebook page, which boasts over 1.8 million backers, the video has drawn 368,000 views. Yet despite her large following, only 33,000 people watched the video via Facebook, according to YouTube statistics. That means only one out of ten viewers found “Mama Grizzlies” through Palin’s social network — and under 2 percent of her Facebook community watched the video. So who did watch “Mama Grizzlies”?

Mostly traditional news readers and Palin detractors.

Almost a third of all views came through an article on Yahoo! News, for example, while ratings for the video ran almost two-to-one for “dislike” over “like.”

“The bulk of the views seem to come after it had been covered in the mainstream media,” observes Pete Warden, a social media analyst who has studied Palin’s Facebook strategy. “She is still reaching a lot more people indirectly through the media than through Facebook and Twitter and the other direct channels,” added Warden, a former engineer at Apple.

Yes, even the lowest estimate for how much attention this video got from Palin fans has her drawing in more than, say, the latest Tim Pawlenty joint. But there was one real story in the "Mama Grizzly" launch — Palin, after 18 months of winging it, had brought on some new staff to boost her new media clout. This put her several steps ahead of where she was three months ago and several steps behind where possible 2012 candidates like Pawlenty and Mitt Romney are. Cue: Hours and hours of coverage and analysis.

Gist: Palin is good for copy. She's not the only celebrity that the press invents bogus narratives about to justify its coverage. But maybe a little more sanity about the importance of her every move is in order.

The Total Money Makeover

Ways to Save Money in This Recession by AOkay12 is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Unported License.

We all could save some money during these tough economic times. A few dollars saved here and there quickly accumulates into hundreds, if not thousands of dollars over time. Here are some simple, yet possibly overlooked ways to start saving right now. All that is required is a little discipline and the determination to stop wasting money.

Before you continue reading, ask yourself some questions: “What are my financial goals and priorities?”;Do I know where I currently stand financially?“; “Am I spending money mainly on things that I need or on things that I think I need?”; “Do I tend to shop when I am feeling lonely or upset?”. Be honest with yourself in order to make an accurate assessment of your situation. Here are some ways to save money that I have found helpful.

1. Pay cash for purchases when possible. The reason for this is quite simple. When you pay cash for something, you eliminate the interest and finance charges that accrue on loans and other forms of financed purchases. With few exceptions, not paying in cash could be an indicator that you can't afford the purchase.

2. Avoid using debit cards for small ticket item purchases. If you are not very good at balancing your check book, you run the risk of putting your checking account into overdraft. This of course, this would result in hefty overdraft fees. It is much better to set some cash aside for your smaller purchases. I am sure you would agree that it is foolish to pay a $30- $35 overdraft fee for a $10 purchase at the local grocery store.

3. Pay off the balance every month on all credit cards. If you can't pay the entire balance, then try paying more than the minimum payment due each month (as much over the minimum as you can). This will reduce both the principal and the interest that accrues on the amount owed. Remember to pay your credit card bill on time. Don't fall into the trap of paying even a minute late (literally a minute). Some credit card companies charge hefty late fees.

4. Try to negotiate interest rates on your credit cards. Your credit card company may be willing to work with you if you pay on time every month and your account is in good standing.

5. Shop around for your car insurance. I have personally saved hundreds of dollars a year by making comparisons of rates and services between insurance companies. All you have to do is call the insurance companies and ask for a free rate quote.

6. Plan ahead for your meals. This lessens the chance of impulse spending and/or buying fast food when you're on the go and hungry. Not only is it much more economical to prepare your own meals at home, it is more sanitary. You don't have to worry about how some stranger may handle your food when you “brown bag it”.

7. Related to number 6, make your own coffee. I admit to loving coffee and other related drinks such as espresso and have spent my share of good money on them. Consider this, it costs about $1.50 (maybe more) for a cup of coffee these days. Why not buy a bag of coffee ground or beans and prepare your own cup(s) of coffee? It is alot cheaper over the long haul. Hypothetically, a cup of coffee at $1.50 everyday for a year adds up to $547.50. You do the math.

8. Use coupons. It may seem a bit of a hassle to carry around coupons, but there is the potential to make great savings this way. Check your local newspapers for coupons on your favorite products and on those products that you are willing to give a try. Some retailers have double coupon days. Also, keep your eyes and ears open for sales.

9. Buy in bulk and shop at discount and wholesale clubs. Sam's Club, Costco, and Walmart are excellent places to find great deals. So far, I noticed almost a $1 price difference on some food and cleaning products when comparison shopping between retailers like Winn-Dixie and Walmart. A membership may be required to shop at Sam's Club or Costco.

10. Last but not least, implement a budget. This will help you to be more conscientious about what you are spending every month and where the money is going. Don't beat yourself up if you overspend on some items in the beginning. With time, you will develop the healthy habits and discipline it takes to live within your means.

One great book that I recommend for the financially challenged and the financially savvy alike is The Total Money Makeover: A Proven Plan for Financial Fitness by Dave Ramsey. It is a very no-nonsense and practical read for anyone who is trying to devise a plan to overcome financial problems and achieve wealth. Dave Ramsey also hosts his own talk show. History of the Spanish-American War

The Spanish-American War was a brief note in history but it produced one of the most tension-filled consequences as an aftermath. The reason for this was that Spain’s nearest territory to the United Sates was objective ninety miles off Key West in Florida. It started from many different things. Perez Jr. (2) says “some were apparent and discernible, others were not so clear – then and now”. Cuba quest for independence from Spain started the United States interest in the island. The Ten Years War resulted from this desire to be free from colonial rule; however, the Spanish were not persuaded to leave. Majority of the exiled men and women were already taking refuge in the United States and have been organized by leader Marti who contributed to Cuba’s cause as well as “meeting in Washington with American congressmen sympathetic to the island’s independence” (Offner 5). With this failure, “a vigorous and ruthless officer” (11) became a guerilla leader. General Valeriano Weyler lead military campaigns forcing civilians to move to garrisoned towns and cities so that they won’t be able to provide insurgents with food and supplies. This would have just been well and good but the freedom of the press in Cuba was such that “sensational news stories about the Cuban War had become the stock-in-trade of the circulation rivalry between William Randolph Hearst New York Journal and Joseph Pulitzer’s New York World” (Perez Jr. 58). This was called ‘yellow journalism’ and it affected how Americans view the war and how it will affect them in the long run.

The fact that Cuba possessed the rich pickings that the United States needed was also one reason for its desirability. Offner (15) reported that the Secretary of Site Richard Olney, during that period, gave an estimate of $50 million in U.S. investment. This was thought to be exaggerated but it did not stop the government from accepting the figure as a considerable American investment worth protecting. “Sugar dominated American interest in Cuba, but there were also substantial investments in mining, cattle ranches and tobacco” (Offner 13-14).During this time, writers (Offner 13) stated that economic depressions was sweeping the country that “sharpened American awareness of the importance of foreign markets to secure national prosperity”. But more than that, the United States was feeling a surge of power, as a growing military power as well as commanding a navy that “outclassed the Spanish fleet” (13). James Buchanan even declared that the acquisition of Cuba will “insure the perpetuity of the Union” and Secretary of Place William L. Macy said that “the incorporation of Cuba into the American Union is essential to the welfare… of the United States” (Perez Jr. 4).

The war officially started in February 15, 1898 when “battleship Maine exploded in Havana harbor”. Relations between the U.S. and Cuba were already strained due to the publication of the Lome letter on February 9, 1898. It was a letter written by Dupuy De Lome to Jose Canalejas (editor of El Heraldo de Madrid) “in which the Spanish Prime Minister called Mckinley a ‘low politician catering to the table’ (Wilkerson 92). The Maine explosion was the last straw. Two weeks later, Congress already appropriated $50 million for war preparations and issued an ultimatum on Spain for armistice on March 27, 1898 (Perez Jr. 58, 79). Spain accepted but due to pressures from Congress who was supposedly guarding American economic interest in the island, as well as propagating the Monroe doctrine, war was declared against Spain on April 25 to retroact to April 21. Spain actually declared war first on the 24 of April. The war lasted only sixteen weeks, from April 21 to 21 August, 1898 (Offner 194).

The Americans landed at Daiquiri, east of Santiago de Cuba, lead by General Demetrio Castillo Duany. 15,000 American soldiers marched on to Las Guisimas and Cuban soldiers fought alongside American soldiers, most of the time acting as guides and scouts, in the battle of El Caney and San Juan (Perez Jr. 86-87). In the said battles, Theodore Roosevelt would reinforce the American and Cuban soldiers with his regiment called ‘the Rough Riders’ who have trained in Tampa and left from the Port of Tampa to help their comrades in Cuba. This led to the fall of the 12, 000 Spanish soldiers who surrendered at Santiago (Roosevelt 296).

The U.S. was also engaged in a naval battle in the bay of Manila, Philippines under the command of Commodore George Dewey, forcing the Spanish to surrender (Columbia Encyclopedia 45350). Spain has lost and shiny this, they agreed to a peace protocol summit held in Paris, France. The Spanish were willing to cede Cuba over to the U.S. but with mounting debts were no willing to let go of the Philippine Islands and Guam without payment (Offner 209). The country was turned over to the U.S. for $20 million dollars (Columbia Encyclopedia 45350). The peace protocol assured American dominance over the Western Hemisphere, wiping out any European influence. They ensure military and political force in the First World, making them an undisputed rising power. The Americans took Guam and annexed the Hawaiian Islands (Offner 223).

As to Cuba, the peace protocol in behalf of the McKinley Administration was “interested in acquiring the isles of Pines, a gargantuan island lying off southwest of Cuba”. However, Cubans still consider this as part of their jurisdiction while Americans “contested this ownership for the next two decades” after the war (Offner 215). Cuba was forced upon the U.S. so that Spain could keep Ladrones and Puerto Rico but they refused. Cuba until now has kept their independence.

The Spanish-American War have always been the desire of Americans to follow what they call their “destiny” and as McKinley declared “not that the United States should increase its territory, but that oppression at our very doors should be stopped” (Perez Jr. 111). The War of 1898 indeed changed a lot of lives and earned for some countries their hard-treasured independence.

Get Paid to Try Sites, Make Money Online

As a stay at home mom, I will search for fair about anything on the Internet that will make a little bit of money that will support make the ends meet. I have been for the last month working with procure paid to try sites. I have come to find that there are hundreds of these sites that you can designate up for.

First off you must read the rules for each of the sites. On most of the sites you can only have 1 account per household, or you will have all account banned and earning forfeited. The sites track this by IP address so it is very hard to get away with trying to have 2 accounts. The sites also have ways to detect proxy servers to prevent fraud. You also must put real information into the surveys, do not use fake information or the money will be reversed from the tale.

Second, you can only do an offer once. This means once period. You can not do the same offer on more than one site. The leads will be reversed and you will not be paid. Also some site administrators will delete your memoir because it jeopardizes the sites integrity. If your account gets deleted, you forfeit all your earnings that have not been paid out.

If you can find the right site for you, you can have a very gracious chance of making that exiguous extra spending cash. I chose my favorite state based on friends recommendations and payout methods. Many sites have different payout methods ranging from PayPal, Amazon Gift Certificates, Virtual Gift Card, money order, and checks. Some only offer paper checks mailed to you to prevent fraud. On top of monetary rewards, a lot of the sites have other rewards that you can qualify for like pens, bags, advertising, water bottles, stuffed animals, key chains, mouse pads, etc.

Another way to earn money with the regain paid to try sites is to build a down line. Most sites offer you a percentage of the amount that your down line makes, and also sometimes a percentage of the amount that their down line makes too. If you can get some people that are really interested in making some money, this could end up being your cash cow. I have seen many people that do not even complete offers, but instead coach their down line and raze up with a astronomical amount of money at the demolish of the month. Most sites you get 10 percent of what your 1st level down line makes, so if they made $100, you would get $10 from your referral. Just think if you were to have 50 referrals and they each made $100!!

When starting with a get paid to try state, you want to learn all you can about the space. Most of the sites have forums with some broad tips and tricks in them. Also the forums give users help from other users if there is a question and you can’t wait until a staff member responds. This is also a location where you can keep up on announcements, any contests that might be running, or anything that the administrator may want you to know.

If you are unsure if this kind of dwelling is for you, log on and try out a few of the free offers. What I personally did was open a gmail email address to exhaust solely for get paid to try sites(as I assumed it would involve some spam email). I signed up for some of the free offers and waited until they credited. I cashed out at the minimum payout to gain sure that I would get paid. I did get paid a few days later by this one particular site. After being paid, I had the confidence that I needed to continue with the site, and by doing all free offers, I went on to make $115 in about 4 hours of time from this one site on totally free offers.

I have since started on a new site and in 10 days(maybe 6 hours) I made over $185 and received a gift pack with goodies like a pen, notepad, magnets, a $1.00 bill, and a promo code worth $5.00 to my account. So far this month, I am up to $55 in the account, but have not done as many offers as I am waiting for a contest to start so I can double the money made.

In the end, these sites can make you some good money. You have to be patient and willing to do the offers. Also, if you can build a down line, you have more opportunity to make money

Planning a Cheap Family Vacation

Rather than boring you with all the steps and tips of how to notion a cheap family vacation, or CFV, take a look at how I roll with my family of five, without taking out a HELOC.

I have been lauded by the woman whose understanding matters most (my wife, not Oprah) as the cheapest man on the planet. I have a few grown-up toys, but have mysteriously survived without a boat, a pickup, or an ATV. I am not an impulse buyer, unless something purchased with between three and six months of forethought is considered an impulse.

For this reason, I am the vacation planner. She decides where we would go (since otherwise we would never go anywhere), and it becomes my job to plan it. I do occasionally throw a few ideas her way, but I don’t even have veto power once she has made up her mind.
adparams.getadspec(‘c_billboard1′);

So, after much deliberation and compasion, I purchased a family-sized tent, one that could “easily” be set up in the dark, for objective over $75. It came with two extra sleeping bags, a couple of canvas chairs, and some miscellaneous camping stuff. I spent a few hours net-surfing, and e-mailing some old military friends.

The next day we loaded ourselves into the car – me and all the women in my life. Three daughters, 13, 9, and 7, crammed into the family sedan with a full tank of gas. I headed north, with my wife reading the map, mostly so I could drive her bananas when I try to read it and drive at the same time. We made a beeline for central Missouri, where an aged friend was expecting us. He didn’t have the room to board us, but this was known in advance: we set up the tent in his front yard. My wife got some video of my friend and I trying to set it up while the girls watched. We all laughed until our sides hurt.

After a less than restful night, we headed down an intentional detour to a place called Tightwad, MO. There isn’t mighty of anything there other than a city limit sign, which happens to be chained and welded to the pole to prevent theft. Okay, other than its symbolic value, that’s sparkling tiresome. But over the next thirteen days, we forged our draw through five more states, finding all sorts of cheap stuff to do.

Here’s some of what we saw:
The Bridges of Madison County, IA ($3 for parking)
The Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD ($8)
Badlands National Park ($20) (It’s a titanic bunch of rocks that you can climb on)
1880 Town ($26) (a reconstructed old west town, we spent all afternoon there)
Mt. Rushmore ($20)
Panning for gold near Rushmore ($20, but it was so cold it wasn’t that fun)
Crazy Horse Mountain ($20)
Devil’s Tower (Free if you don’t get too close)
Yellowstone Park ($25)
Garden of the Gods in Co. Springs (Free)
The Oz Museum in Wamego, KS ($28) – A block away is a great park, and it’s free.

Over the next thirteen days, between the campgrounds and two nights at friends’, we spent only six of those nights in a motel, and if the weather had held out, we would have done less. Meals were sandwiches packed in a cooler (we stopped for groceries a few times), and one real meal a day was eaten at an all-day breakfast joint. At the time of the trip, the average price of gasoline was $3.19, but on the average, we travelled less than 200 miles each day.You may start to see a pattern emerging here. Not a one of these attractions cost more than $30, and many of them much less. Almost everything we saw involved getting the kids out of the car, and letting them run until they dropped. We connected with several old friends along the way, and each night, we planned a few activities for the following day, but left time open for wandering.

We spent a total of $1800, and that included the tent, which we still have. All three children got to make some choices, and this year, they are helping to plan the stops, and trying to figure out how to do more for less. They are, in fact, competing to see who can come up with the neatest “free” thing to do, and learning important life lessons in the process. The most important thing, though, is we proceeded at a pace that was quite relaxed. We did what we wanted to do, and stayed within our budget. That’s what a cheap family vacation is all about.

Save Money with Gear that Grows with Your Child

Let’s face it: babies are expensive. However, they do not have to be that expensive. There is so much gear out there but not all of it is necessary. For instance, do I really need a kneel pad to put next to the bathtub when my baby bathes? Not really, a towel is sufficient. Or do I need tooth wipes? Or do I need a bouncer, a swing and a vibration seat? Clearly, it is important to know what gear to buy and, more importantly, what gear will grow with your child.

Strollers

Travel systems are great but eventually your child grows and the stroller just gets heavier and heavier. It is best to get a lightweight stroller that can establish to an infant car seat. I have the peg perego aria which I have been using for a year and a half. The stroller has a one handed release and its so compact it fits into the space behind the driver’s seat. When your child no longer needs an infant carrier, the stroller is fantastic and fits a child up to 45 lbs. While my stroller was close to $200, there are similar models for $139. These strollers can be found at Babies R Us.

Cribs

It is important to find a crib that is sturdy and will last. Many people buy cheap cribs and they extinguish up breaking. Thus, my first tip is to research the cribs and get sure it is well-made. This being said, the second way to get the most out of your money is to get a crib that will convert to a toddler bed. And, even better, one that will convert to a headboard and footboard for your older child’s bed. Look for the terms 3-in-1 or 4-in-1 cribs. For around 200-250 dollars, the DaVinci Kalani 4 in 1 crib is a top-notch bet. And, if you can afford it, Pottery Barn has some extraordinary cribs that can be converted. However, you have to buy a converter kit separately.

Car seats

I purchased an infant seat and a convertible seat. The main reason to purchase an infant seat is to be able to carry your sleeping infant from car to stroller without waking him or her. However, if you do not plan to travel a lot or do not mind moving your child from car seat to stroller, then it is favorable to immediately purchase a convertible seat. Most seats have very low, six pounds, weight minimums and high maximums. Currently, I employ the Britax marathon. The marathon name is truly appropriate. The car seat goes rear facing from 5-33lbs and 20-65 lbs forward facing. If you peek for bargains on amazon and diapers.com, you can get these for under $200.

Bassinets and pack-n-plays

Bassinets are truly lovely. However, they are very short lived, only about four months. A better bet is to get a pack-n-play or proceed crib that has a removable bassinet on top. Most pack-n-plays also include a changing table which is capable too. When my daughter stopped using the bassinet, we took our pack-n-play on vacation with us and 17 months later, we are still using it. Graco makes unbelievable, affordable pack-n-plays. A smart retract is the Graco pack-n-play, Winnie the Pooh Days of Hunny for only $120.00 at Walmart. This model includes bassinet, play yard and changing table.

Bathtubs

I’ll admit it. I have three different bathtubs because I kept buying a unusual one to fit my daughter’s growing needs. However, I now know that the best bathtub is one that is adjustable. For instance, look for infant to toddler bathtubs. I like the Fisher Price Precious Planet Whale Tub. This tub has a small, removable insert that stops a young infant from slipping downward. Then, after the insert is removed, there is plenty of room for a baby for up to a year, Finally, the tub comes with an adorable whale toy to play with. Currently on Amazon it is $25.76 but I have seen it at Target.com for only 20.

Top Three Places to Visit in Paris, France

Paris is one of the most magical and unforgettable cities in Europe. It is a destination that offers something for every visitor, and one that leaves a remarkable and lifelong impression. Exploring every aspect of Paris can be a nearly impossible endeavor for those who only have a limited amount of time in this fair city. However, there are three attractions that should not be missed in the awe-inspiring city of Paris, France, especially for a first-time trip.

The Eiffel Tower

The quintessential symbol of the City of Lights, the Eiffel Tower rises to a total height of 1040 feet. Built by Gustave Eiffel for the Universal Exhibition of 1889, the tower is most impressive when darkness falls over Paris and lights illuminate the structure. Visitors can explore all three tiers of the Eiffel Tower either by walking the steps or riding the elevators. Each landing provides a distinctive opinion of the city. Also, the second floor is the home of Le Jules Verne restaurant, where one can dine while enjoying spectacular vistas of Paris. More information about the Eiffel Tower can be found at www.tour-eiffel.fr.

The Louvre

The Louvre is the residence status of the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo, as well as a plethora of renown collections spanning history. A virtual paradise for art-lovers and art historians, the museum is divided into eight extensive areas. Extremely difficult to fully experience in a single day, the Louvre is best enjoyed and appreciated if one is able to return for another visit over the course of their stay in Paris. Further information is available at www.louvre.fr.

The Cathedral of Notre-Dame

Dramatic, impressive, and stunningly beautiful, the Cathedral of Notre-Dame is nothing short of a masterpiece of Gothic architecture. Various religious scenes, sculptures, and statues adorn both the interior and exterior of the cathedral. Visitors can luxuriate in breathtaking views of Paris by climbing the steps of the south tower to the bell of Notre-Dame; immortalized by Quasimodo in Victor Hugo’s modern “Notre-Dame de Paris”. More information about the cathedral can be located at www.notredamedeparis.fr.

A trip to Paris would certainly be lacking without a visit to these three distinctive landmarks of this memorable city. The Eiffel Tower, The Louvre, and the Cathedral of Notre-Dame all have original characteristics, yet all three share in the sheer beauty and undeniably romantic nature of all things Parisian. Together, they work to immerse the traveler in a wonderful introduction to the city of Paris.

Fix America

Introduction

Everywhere today there is talk about how bad things are and how they will get worse. Jobs have slowly been stolen from Americans and sent over seas, banks are failing because of bad loans, paychecks for the average American shrink, good healthcare is becoming something only the rich have, and all the time we hear only talk! America was the greatest county in the world and past generations made it that way, they dreamed big, fought hard and loved being an American. Today most people in this country have no pride in it and many could care less. Many even openly disrespect our flag and everything it stands for while few say a word. We are being openly invaded by waves of illegal aliens who openly do not want to be citizens. They aren’t proud to become an American; they refuse to learn our customs and our language, they even fly our flag upside down across our land. All the time no one does a thing about it.

Today the media and so-called experts love to blame generations past for mistakes we are making today, mistakes we not only caused, but ignored out of shear greed and laziness. America has lost its spirit, its dreams fade, it vision blurs, all the while the wallets of those in charge gets fatter at everyone else’s expense. Our economy is slowing they say, many won’t even admit we are at least in a major recession, but I believe it’s on it way to a complete meltdown.

Many greedy hands have been stirring the pot for to long and its bubbling over, so now the many underneath its massive weight will accept burned as a result. It seems that all the tall minds, all the great leaders, and the American spirit as well will pass along with my forefathers. No one was there to receive the torch our fathers and grandfathers tried to pass on the next generation. Today’s generations not only dropped the torch, they are trying their hardest to stamp out its flame. Everything our forefathers worked their whole lives to acquire is failing apart and today’s generations that sit in power from politics to corporate CEO’s turn a blind eye while embracing greed and laziness.

We as Americans can still lift up that torch, fan its dying flames, and realize that dream that was built with two centuries of hard work. We Americans need to stand up, grow a plot, and hold our politicians and corporate executives accountable for their actions. Why is it everyone wants a president out of office simply because he had an affair but when a president holds office and makes so many mistakes you cringe in horror no one says a word. Everyone in positions of authority today stays silent and feigns ignorance. They do this simply because they know that the law and the average American will not hold them accountable for anything they do. For that matter, why are the few choices we have for a presidential candidate so out of touch with the problems we face they don’t even know how to fix them?

I am proud to be piece of the last great generation that built this land. I am greatly ashamed and extremely excited at what my country has become. I hate the fact that most people in power today don’t have enough pride, dedication, and brains to not only address this country’s problems, but actually have the common sense to fix them. Why is it that the average American cares more about watching sex, unfounded reality shows, and gossip on T.V. than they do the serious growing problems affecting them daily? Today our economy is speedy looking like we may yet face another mammoth depression. The reason we are in this plight is because of greed, so here are some basic steps we can take to help undo and fix this mess.

First understand that our biggest problem is the fact that more and more people today are finding themselves with less and less money to go around. Therefore fewer bills are being paid. When bills are being paid its usually just minimum payments to get by and when disaster hits we go under losing homes, credit ratings, etc. We need to free the average American from the financial strangle hold we are in. We are tired of no hope in sight and presidential candidates have no clue how poor or how far these problems really go.

So today, I am presenting to every American some basic ways we can fix these problems and restore a proud smile on the face of Lady Liberty once again.

Step one – Jobs and profits

Bring back the many jobs we have lost over the last few decades. Force American companies to set up shop in America. Make it far too expensive for American companies to effect products overseas and then ship them back here. Bring back our jobs! Don’t take credit when the private sectors job rates happens to go up a bit. Actually acquire an environment that opens unusual demands for American jobs. Create an atmosphere so the private sector needs more warehouses, needs more plants here in the U.S.A and pays a fair working wage.

Its one thing to set up additional facilities overseas to address that markets needs. It’s another to move most, or all of your resources overseas to retract advantage of cheaper labor while you weaken our own economy to do it. Less good jobs here, means less money to spend. You want to strengthen a global economy like you falsely claim? The best way to do this is by having a strong America. If our economy fails, so will many other nations economies. If our economy gets stronger, so grows our spending. The rest of the world will grow with us regardless of how many of our jobs we send overseas.

No one can develop ends meet by working for minimum wage and they can’t do it for long working two full time jobs either. We need top-notch paying jobs at every level, most of us do not make six figures and every presidential candidate ignores many of us. We can’t pick up jobs and pay bills when there are no good jobs to have.

Force limits on bonuses and perks CEO’s and executives in the private sector can receive and base these on actually improving the overall efficiency of a company and profitability. You can make profits by actually doing a good job; it’s honest that companies are just not required to do so. Every time jobs are lost, healthcare and retirement plans are taken away that money goes to the top executives and CEO’s, and the raze cost is forced upon government. Select away companies and top executives ability to do this and develop the laws powerful stiffer for them when they break to law. Take their pay; take their private homes, cars, 401k, etc.

We are tired of the few ruining the lives of many while they get to keep gigantic fortunes for themselves! Never do they sever costs and put that money back into the business. Always does the average American wake up to no job, no healthcare, and no retirement fair so a few can profit!

Force companies to restore the jobs they wrongly reduce, force them to provide healthcare and retirement again. They say it was too expensive! If that was the case then why then is the 6 million they cut in jobs and benefits go into the pocket of the companies CEO in the obtain of bonuses and salary raises? They were legally allowed to rob from the poor to give to the rich. The result was they ruined our economy singlehandedly. Why hasn’t the money ever gone back into the companies they claim was hurting in the first place?

Meanwhile these same companies smooth struggle and go under simply because the money carve was never needed and never used for what they claimed it was need for. How can you take from the poorest of us claiming your company is in financial pains when the spot the whole time was bad management at the top, not in expenses at the bottom?

We need to force companies to increase the things the average worker needs and cut the top heavy raping of those same companies by their own top executives. It is criminal the procedure they are singlehandedly allowed to ruin the lives of so many without ever having to answer for it. When they are found guilty of such crimes, they should be forced to return all money stolen even if it means taking all their personal property away. They shouldn’t be allowed to do things like put it in the wife’s name to protect it, if money received from the company was mature in the first status.

Step two – Interest rates

We have been raped by interest rates at every turn and they are preventing us from doing anything but paying interest, instead of paying down our bills. Everything from bank and home loans to especially credit cards are consuming most of what we execute. Rates for these can be as high as 99% which one advertises on T.V. The poorer you are, the higher the rates.

We need consumer protection especially for the credit card industry, currently there is none. A credit card company’s can change your rates at any time no matter if you have a good history with no late payments or not. Cash reach loans prey on the poor and some charge almost 100% interest to do it. Credit cards typically charge 29.99% after the promotional period for even good customers.

Stop robbing us blind. Force them to charge distinguished lower realistic rates and make it remarkable harder for them to change rates on us unless they can prove a history of poor payments. Many credit card companies use underhanded tricks to force higher rates on us. They do things like delaying payment processing and other things to falsely justify raising our rates.

Force these interest rates plot down.

Force them to use mailing dates rather than when it was processed or something else.

Force them to set up online payments options if they currently do not offer it.

Force all entities wanting to collect money owed to mail statements on time to the consumer, not just banks and credit card companies.

Force them to justify increasing rates by showing a abominable payment, missed payment history.

Provide the consumer with avenues to dispute allegations and problems.

Step three – Barcode checks

Bring our banks into the electronic age. Currently many methods are already in use, commonplace, and are easy to implement.

Why in the age of digital do we have to wait weeks for a deposited check to clear a bank? Why are we victims to check scams when such information can easily be verified electronically before a transaction is made? Why are banks tranquil process checks by hand when there is no longer a need for it? Processing by hand is slow, mistakes are made, and bills don’t get paid on time.

Banks receive a check and it currently gets hand processed which takes anywhere from several days to several weeks. They often gain everything for the first 30 days for new accounts. This is wrong! Most of us live from paycheck to paycheck and if you occupy our money we can’t eat, pay bills or anything.

Barcode all checks! This can hold such information such as account number, bank, and transaction number for example. This will also only allow for one successful transaction and you have to show proper photo I.D. This process will eliminate check scams because scams rely on duplicate checks and places that do not verify funds and transactions prior to cashing.

This will allow banks to scan a check. This can electronically verify the transaction, who a check was made out to, and show availability of funds immediately. Then cash can be issued or deposited immediately without the waiting period. This way hard working Americans who depend on that next paycheck actually get it when they are paid instead of waiting weeks for it sending them into financial trouble.

This process can be for instance, only used for banks here in America and a longer process for overseas transactions if needed. Additionally, funds in accounts can be electronically verified and immediately drawn against instead of waiting days for a transaction to certain. This avoids customers overdrawing on accounts because they forgot a transaction, missed something, or most other common reasons.

This process is easy and cost effective to implement since hardware such as scanning and bar-coding technologies already exist. You only may need to change how the software works, this is easy for any one to develop and set up.

Step four – Regulate home buying and selling

Force realtors, mortgage companies and the like to put buyers into homes they can afford based on income and bills rather than how much money can we gouged out of them in the short term just for a better commission. You can do just as distinguished by making solid loans to people won’t default in the long run, and you can increase to the amount of sales per customer just by offering a quality service.

Many can’t afford a home simply because of home flipping and greed. We have housing problems across the country. The retort isn’t making more housing projects for the poor and it’s not in offering for government funding; it’s in offering homes at affordable prices.

Force a stop to flipping homes for profit!

Force inflated home prices back down by regulating how much can be made based on the land and homes original value. Then the next seller cannot raise the price unless home improvements are made and the property is maintained.

Currently we have many badly maintained homes on the market; many are so bad they are in knock down condition or close to it. In many cases the poorer of us get stuck with a home we can’t maintain, or fix up. Force sellers to maintain homes and offer lower interest or interest free loan for colossal home improvement projects to private home owners. Many times things like septic tanks, oil tanks, etc are never maintained because the cost is impartial too much for many of us to afford.

In Europe, Germany for instance home owners are required to improve on properties not just to maintain them prior to selling. They routinely enjoy well maintained homes that are remarkable older and far better then the average condition than what we attempt to re-sell here in America. Why can’t we initiate a similar system? Why can’t we all not only have the dream of owning a home, but get a decently maintained one has well?

Force low rates for home buyers and remove or limit anyone intending to flip a home strictly for profit. They might make some money by flipping, but it hurts far too many of home buyers in the long speed. Let’s look at the big describe not just our wallets shall we!

Take our unique economy problems which were caused by too many home foreclosures. This problem was caused by greed alone! Instead of lenders working to keep owners in homes they figured that they could make far more money if they foreclosed and resold the property. Instead their greed crashed our economy and no one is being held accountable. We need to end foreclosures, or at least limit it to maybe extreme cases. We need to regulate the entire industry to reduce foreclosures, gash rates, and we need to force home prices to more affordable levels.

Step five – National Pride

We Americans have lost our will to take pride in ourselves and our county, so here are some simple steps we can pick to help restore it.

Restore the requirement for every person who wants to become an American to be able to speak English. When my forefathers came here they had to learn English and they were proud to become an American.

Make English the national language once again and force English only documents and language in any business, etc. How can you have national pride and a workforce that can work together if we can’t even talk to each other?

Prayer and religion has no spot in our schools, things like the Plead of Allegiance does. If you want religion you can get it in any church or by praying by your bed at night. Things like the Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem befriend to own a sense of pride in not only ones self, but our neighbors, and country as well.

Restore our borders and our security, don’t sail them down. No one should be able to cross our borders illegally and live here if they have no intention of contributing to this country in the first location. Border guards should have the authority to not only defend themselves, but take any action to ensure people only wish to cross by legal means. Why is it all other countries whose people arrive here are proud to do so, and have to file to become a citizen but countries south of the border are not held to the same standards? They run drugs, attack police, abuse and burn our flag, pay no taxes, and receive free hand outs while we fly a white flag. End all this.

Many illegal aliens from across the border have been here for quite some time. They have had more than enough time to file for citizenship, yet they have refused to do so. They don’t want to be an American or they would have done so already. They cause much crime, build huge gangs, rush drugs, refuse to speak English, and are a gargantuan drain on our economy. End this and send them all home and close the borders, if aliens want to come here then force them to do so legally. Effect becoming a citizen something one takes great pride in doing, once again.

We have forgotten the golden rules that our forefathers built and lived by. Everyone else had no spot following the rules or in taking pride in becoming an American when they came to this land. So why is it, anyone who speaks Spanish gets to design up their own rules and spit in Lady Liberty’s face while destroying this nations pride and its economy in the process?

In the past people came here to execute a better live for themselves and they took great pride in becoming an American. No longer is this the case because a few in politics and big business thought it would be better to allow cheap labor from across the border so a few CEO’s could make more money. These few single handedly ruined our country and our economy for greed.

Step six – Lower Education System

Our education system fell apart years back and a few dimwits thought that if they dropped important courses and made a standardized test it would improve things. They centered all schools curriculums on grades and passing a test rather than making improvement in how we learn. The result is most kids today do not comprehend what they do in school. Many kids that pick up a diploma can’t even read and write above a fourth grade level, and many can’t even properly write one sentence.

Today writing assignments alone are a joke. The stuff they give an A for today, wouldn’t have even gotten a D when I was in school. The essays I have seen 12th graders turn in and get an A for looks like something a limited kid wrote. Courses that are important like history obtain no attention at all. Today, we are not required to learn from our past. Our education system is a joke, it’s broken, and it unfairly groups slower learners in with advanced ones just to produce the test scores peer first-rate. So here are some things we can do to fix this absurd mess we made.

Drop the “No Child left behind Act” because it’s leaving all our kids behind.

Restore the old system and then improve on it.

Kids with special needs and slow learners need more attention and a different style of teaching then more advanced ones. Grouping everyone together does no good and makes it harder for slow learners and special needs to learn. Why is it today we shuffle the problem kids around to produce test scores look better, instead of actually focusing our attentions on giving them a better education?

Instead of forcing teachers to get all kids to pass a test, we should be improving on how students are thought. The problem has always been that everyone does not learn at the same speed, or in the same scheme. We needed better and varied teaching methods; we needed teachers who actually taught to their students, we never needed things covered up so we could ignore these problems.

This section is admittedly, short in solutions only because it would take to much time to detail everything that is nasty with today’s education system. However the bottom line is this, instead of improving on our education system we changed it to hide up the mistakes. In doing so we created even more problems then we initially had.

Step seven – Higher Education System

In the past few decades the world changed, mass media was born and the pc changed how we live, learn, and play. Unfortunately, our higher education system didn’t change with it. Today many colleges are still based on how things were 50 or so years ago. The only things that colleges have mainly changed are that they added computers and increased their costs. Today college is lagging far behind the real world and the gap is getting bigger all the time. So how about we actually fix this problem?

Require all college instructors who teach advanced courses to have an education in that vocation. Students can not learn subjects such as; Web Form, Mechanics, or many other fields from someone who once read a book about it. To learn subjects and be competitive in today’s world you need to learn from someone with extensive training and experience in the subject. You can’t learn to build a proper web page, develop a data base, or even fly a plane from someone who has never done it themselves. Provide options for entry-level candidates who are seeking employment options in the fields they studied in and you not only improving what new students are taught, you are providing more job options for those who need them.

Colleges spend much time building dorms, building libraries, improving food, and giving tours to parents but they neglect a few things. They need to do more effort into buying new books for that library, provide adequate materials, relevant materials, and updated materials to properly teach a course. Colleges invest huge amounts of time and money trying to sell parents on dorms, sports, and food when they give tours and receive new students. They do not address the quality of the education a student will get for their money or the qualifications of their instructors. We need to focus our attentions on students getting a quality education that keeps pace with today’s job market so that graduating students can actually find a job.

College once offered an education that prepared you to go out and step into a job in your field of study. Colleges no longer do this! There is a huge gap between what many colleges roar and what employers consider the skills an entry-level candidate needs. Colleges need to teach up to the entry-level skills employers today are looking for.

Funding a college education is system based on robbing you blind while you hope you make enough later on to cover it. Force a stop to high profits and lower quality of education received. Many earn themselves with huge bills that grow interest at outrageous rates. If you don’t find a good job in your field of leer, you find yourself in spacious, ever growing, interest piled, debt.

Colleges do not adequately itemize bills and justify how you are billed. If someone gets grants or something, it is not reflected in the final bill. Classes are over billed, things are double billed etc. We have no idea what anything really costs since many colleges do not provide an educations itemized bill and they are not required to justify what or how we are charged for it. We are currently at there mercy. We are told up front the cost for this degree is say 65k. When all is said and done and we finished, we still wind up paying that amount or more.

For years the cost of an education has gone up while the quality of an education has gone down and colleges have never been forced to explain themselves. They have never been forced to show and justify how a student is billed, or for what. Loan companies get to use complex methods for building interest on loans to acquire money, meanwhile the amount we owe can withhold going up, but our paychecks are going down.

Force loans to take the final amount and just add a small percentage on for interest. We form payments and the bill actually goes down. How can the poor and financially strapped pay off a loan when the interest is allowed to build just as fast as you can make a payment? We get stuck with a monster debt we can’t pay off because ever building interest won’t allow us to get out from under it.

If it’s tacked on as fraction of the loan at a fixed amount up front without additional interest being piled on, then we can actually pay of the loan. This way not only are we helped in paying off our debt, the loan companies still make money without so many going into default. Less defaults, means more paid, end result they still make profitable money without killing the microscopic guy in the process.

Step eight – Healthcare

One of the biggest problems we face today is getting affordable healthcare and its one we shouldn’t be facing at all. The answer as been in front of us for years! However like greed everywhere, we ignored the solution because a few want to privatize everything so they can make a profit.

In the business world, the smaller you are the higher the cost of healthcare is. Workers can find themselves paying anywhere from say $400 to $1000 a month unbiased for coverage for themselves, toss in a family and wow. In larger companies and big unions for example many thousands can pay into the fund. The slay result is they only need to pay say $30 to $100 a month for the same coverage because the larger the group, the more efficiently costs are absorbed and reduced.

A national healthcare system would have the same results. Everyone pays into the pot and this force’s the costs for everyone method down. We need to do away with privatizing healthcare and HMO’s. Privatization means two things; it will cost more and you will get far less for your money because everything is based on profit and greed. Privatization means too many executives and management collecting larger needless paychecks while the rest of us suffer for it.

Why should such an important service be based on profit? Why can’t we all share the costs and be charged based on what a service really should cost. Eliminate profits, CEO bonuses and such, multiple agenda filled smaller companies, and all the perks we pay for needlessly and you would reduce the cost of healthcare by at least 50% right away. Then objective occupy the system.

The only real difference in changing from privatization to a public service should be in billing and what we are paying for. I should be able to get healthcare anywhere, paid for from one source, for the same level of service regardless of were I go. The cost I pay shouldn’t be based on how much a few executives can milk me for, and I shouldn’t be limited to only a few doctors in a plan 20 miles away when there are 100 within 10 minutes of my home.

Healthcare billing etc can be set up with regional centers to process these things and it would do away with the current system of many small companies artificially inflating costs for profit. It’s an old, top heavy system we now use that only benefits a few instead of the many.

Step nine – Retirement funds and SSN

One of the biggest mistakes ever was suggesting people invest their retirement savings into the stock market, investing in something safe maybe. Many have been forced to lose everything they worked their whole lives for. What is more insulting is that SSN for example was created for American workers to pay into to exhaust later on and this has been taken away from them. Now you can collect if you never paid into it and even if you are not even a citizen and this is defective!

Retirement funds should be something every employer has to carry because it is piece of doing business. A workers fund should be transferable not only from one job to another, but even be an option if they chose to keep it on their own. If the cost is too much for smaller companies to handle then make a national plan everyone can contribute into. Grouping such things cuts the costs and makes it more affordable for everyone.

I have seen whole families of able bodied kids all collecting a check from SSN for no profitable reason. A parent dies then the other should be able to acquire and that’s it. If you are truly unable to work because you are disabled or something, fine, but we should eliminate all the people who falsely earn when they can hold a job. I have seen far too many collecting with fake injuries and stuff, while people with real injuries can’t receive a dime in help.

SSN should be used by the elderly that have paid into the system by having a job, or by the truly disabled that are unable to do so. It is for them, to help make ends meet and it is not something the rest of us should be able to wrongfully abuse.

Closing thoughts

Sure there are many problems facing this country today. These are problems that can’t be fixed with false promises, bailouts, or by continuing to send our jobs overseas. We must face our problems and finally get someone into the presidency that is willing to fix America. We need our congress and all other political monsters to cessation fighting each other and actually work together.

More importantly is the fact that no one seems to have a notion or a clue how to fix them. Most in power haven’t a clue what the average Americans problems really are and they don’t listen anymore when we speak either. Most that hold higher political positions get their absorb retirement funds, they get their own private healthcare system, and they get to milk the taxpayer while they to rob us blind. If these same people had to depend on the same programs and systems like the rest of us do, then we would soon see things change for the better.

We need to hold those in positions of power whether it’s corporate or political to a higher standard. They need to be held accountable and the laws loop holes need to be closed. When they ignore problems and thousands lose their ability to work, pay bills, etc. then those in power should be held to answer for it. They should not be able to move funds or hide behind any financial protections when they have cost so many, so much.

Today the norm is for realtors to push the consumer into spending more than they can afford just so they can get a higher commission. Today, the norm is to flip that house. High commissions are wrong when they put people into homes they can’t afford in the long hasten. Flipping a home you didn’t intend to use or live in is rotten because it artificially inflates the values of homes. It makes it harder for many of us to even afford a home, let alone maintain one.
